The Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT) made history at the United Nations as the first Non-Governmental Organization credited with creating a UN International Day. The United Nations proclaims “International Days” in order to “educate the general public on issues of concern, to mobilise political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce the achievements of humanity.” More often, Member States can formally propose International Days, Years and Decades subject to the approval of the UN General Assembly.
From the outcome declaration at the High-Level World Women's Health and Development Forum, to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science proclaimed with the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution (70/212), the journey of RASIT continues its inspiring work, empowering women and girls in science everywhere.
